My typical reactions when things go wrong

As books pointed out that teamwork is needed in order to deal with problems. Teamwork bring all the power and knowledge together in order to combat against difficulties. However, self-leadership is also needed for each person. WE called it 個性 live inside of a team. As a member, as a individual, we need keep our 個性 (Self-leadership).

As my core brief towards difficulties and problems, I always believe the existence of difficulties. So whenever it occurs, i am not surprising and keep calm. In some good condition, i already prepare the solution for it in advance. i think for most of us, believe in the existence of difficulties are needed. Keep calm, and think deeply, is all we need in order to deal with difficulties.

Risky choices

There were several significant risks i took before. For example, the case i chose to study in Japan, the case i chose to have a one-year exchange to U.S high school. All of them are what i want to do. However, usually all of them are with some counter argument made by my family.

Choosing to study in Japan, that means i quit my school in China and restart my life in a foreign country. For my parents' view, it is really risky for me to restart again. They afraid i will drop out. The same argument came out when i decided to study abroad when i was senior in high school, the most important period for every student to prepare for University examination. That are right to worry about what i am going to do. However, the eagerness for me to choose what i am going to do, also motivated me to do better.

Answer to the question that did i develop a plan for communicate risks to others or not. I will say i usually tried to communicate the risk to others and tried to persuade. However, the neck point is do others have a flexible point of view? If their view is so strong, its hard for them to agree with the risks you are going to take. Negotiation is needed, but the outcome is not always win-win. So when you failed to persuade others, you need a back up plan. Therefore, you can shift to the next step quickly.^^

chapter 7, dealing with troublemakers, skeptics, and malcontents

As the chapter recommended, "keep trouble makers close by" and so on in order to engage them inside of team is a right thing to do . In other words, it is not correct to push them away. However, i think it is really hard to deal with them. Especially, you are the leader in a team. There are usually a hard task (team goal ) for a limited short term, you will be facing a situation that you do not have extra stamina to deal with them. So in this case, the only thing i can do will be push them away; Lead the team moving first instead of being proactive. However, in a long term view, i need keep these people involved and making these people be active even in the decision-making process. It is a task for me.

Chapter 5, Keep Everyone Informed, Involved and Thinking About Solutions

"Put employees in a better position to focus on problems and suggest solutions", "Encourage open discussion and comment", these two ways were mentioned in the book. By doing these , everyone will has the feeling of being a member of a team and taking responsibility to the whole team.

Shackleton created the "Directive Committee" in order to gather everyone. "Directive Committee" facilitated members involving with the team decision and finding solutions to what team is facing.

Another way i thought will be "Reciprocal Help". Inside of team, each member has a individual task to involve. In the case, if one helping another person's task, it will help these two person to communicate more and help each other to finish their own task. As a result, it will help whole team's performance.

Vision and Quick Victories

My long-term goal is to be a Social Business Entrepreneur. I put a lot weight of my personal value in mercantilism. So maybe doing business, creating things, is my inherent nature. But more over traditional style of business, a social business is a brand-new idea! Social business is a term used to describe business which also focus in creating solution for society. For example,"Table for Two", the system our new dinning hall already innovated. It's a good system to help reducing the hunger problem in developing country especially in Africa.
My short-term is serving for International Organization like UN. It's a great chance to learn more about what the problems we are facing nowadays. In addition, it's an opportunity to learn how organization will able to offer solutions to these problems.
In order to achieve a quick victory, i want a good grade for this SE class o^ ^o
Well, my short term goal is after working for few years soon with my graduation from ICU, i would like getting a MA. Degree in UK.
